Job Description and Job Responsibilites

Job Title: Transportation Driver/Courier


Job Summary: The Transportation/ Courier provides inter-company courier, errand and delivery services. Retrieves supplies, inter-company mail, documents and other items from pick-up locations, primarily hospital facilities and promptly delivers to designated locations. Responding to hospital department requests to transport documents to and from hospital facilities using a company provided vehicle. Safely commuting, exhibiting caution and defensive driving techniques to assures safety at all times. General responsibility in maintaining van maintenance as defined below. Performs other related duties as requested and assigned.


Essential Job Duties:
 Maintain clear and accurate records, logs, and reports
 Effectively respond to emergencies on and around the vehicle
 Completes vehicle pre- and post-inspections including oil, vehicle fuel consumption logs and fluid levels, lifts, doors, tires, etc., and maintains maintenance checklist. Reports malfunctions as necessary
 Provides and/or arranges for appropriate maintenance of the vehicle as outlined by the manufacturer in conjunction with the department. Maintains cleanliness of the vehicles overall appearance.
 Adheres to all traffic laws and regulations
 Demonstrates knowledge and competency in participating in the Hospital Lift Team, utilizing safe body mechanics
 Responsible to maintain clean transportation equipment in safe working order, removing and reporting faulty equipment per hospital policy

Serves as a role model for the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization. Fulfills other job duties as requested within scope and within hospital policies and procedures and other regulatory standards 
 Maintains current competencies
 Assists with special projects when needed which may include pick up or drop off of corporate mail, office supplies, offsite storage as well as corporate office relocation. 




Job Requirements

Education/Experience:
 High school graduate or GED equivalent.
 A combination of education, training, and experience to operate and maintain a lift-equipped van and to assist passengers
 Knowledge of the following:
o traffic laws and safety requirements relating to the operation of van
o defensive driving techniques
o operation of transit vehicles, wheelchair lifts, safety equipment and fueling
o geography and street layout of the greater Los Angeles area
o general vehicle maintenance procedures


Licensure/Certifications:
 Current California Commercial (Class B) driver’s license with a clean driving record; no convictions, license suspension or revocation related to reckless driving, hit and run, leaving the scene of an accident, driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances, or while otherwise impaired; no “at-fault” citations related to a motor vehicle accident for at least three years.
