Job Description and Job Responsibilites

Job Title: System Sterile Processing and Distribution Supervisor 

Job Summary: 

The Sterile Processing and Distribution Supervisor is responsible for the development, training and monitoring of all activity and results within the SPD departments for Avanti Hospitals. Within the SPD departments, the supervisor will ensure a level of quality is maintained by developing SPD practices for decontamination, sterilization, and storage of supplies, equipment, and instrument/sets utilized not only in the Operating Room (OR) but throughout the organization.  This position will report to the Chief Administrative Officer. 

Essential Job Duties: 

Plans, organizes and directs the operation of all hospital sterile supply and distribution services including cleaning, sterilizing, assembling and storing of medical supplies and equipment to include specialized equipment for the operating room, inpatient units and the outpatient clinics. 

Establishes, reviews and monitors professional standards of practice for infection control, safety and quality assurance to meet JC requirements and AAMI (Association for Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) standards and guidelines. 

Writes, updates and implements policies and procedures for the storage and distribution of sterile processing equipment; confers with vendors and sales representatives on new items and changes in supplies and service; assists in contract negotiations. Assures that staff competencies are in place and all staff remain up to date on all SPD competencies. 

Provides training, orientation and ongoing in-service to staff in the principles and practices of sterilization and aseptic techniques and in the use and care of new and/or specialized equipment; demonstrates sound leadership, interpersonal, customer service, work prioritization skills, and job-specific troubleshooting skills. 

Maintains and monitors a system for routine and emergency ordering, tracking of back orders and identification of appropriate substitutes; plans, organizes and supervises the inventory system.




Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: 


Education: Associates Degree or Equivalent Experience 

Certification:  Possession of a current certification in sterile processing techniques issued by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD), or the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)

 
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience in a Sterile Processing and Sterilization unit of an acute care hospital performing sterilization functions, one year of which was as a lead or supervisory level.
