Job Title: Patient Access Lead

Job Summary:

This position functions as a liaison between the Patient Access Director, Patient Access Supervisor & the department during all shifts and is responsible for overseeing the workflow of a dedicated work team. The Lead must be a positive example for team members, acts as the initial resource for problem solving and ensures, the team performs their duties with accuracy and timeliness.

This position requires extensive & in-depth interaction with patients, co-workers, Insurance companies, and Hospital personnel. The Lead role must be able to handle potentially stressful situations as well as multiple tasks on time. This role also will need to promote teamwork and cooperation and must work with their team to continually improve accuracy and efficiency of the Admission/Registration process.

Employees in this position are responsible for patient check in, completing the face-to –face patient interview, answering billing questions and managing patient medical records via documentation scanning. Candidate must have the ability to work in a fast paced, high patient volume environment.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Ensures customers are provided services in a timely manner
  • Assists in the training and orientation of staff
  • Provides feedback to leadership on staff performance and compliance
  • Assist with the completion of reports and projects, as assigned
  • Monitors quality and provides feedback
  • Works in conjunction with insurance companies and Case Management to obtain authorization for services.
  • Works with staff to ensure that daily cash collections and HPE have been completed on self-pay accounts.
  • Reconcile payments and deposits
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Responsible for monitoring and arranging coverage as needed to ensure the department has the proper staffing and meal periods are taken.

Job Requirements


  • High School graduate, some college or Associate Degree preferred
  • 2 to 3 years’ experience as Patient Access Lead preferred in Acute Hospital setting.
  • Complete understanding of payer requirements, and state and federal regulations.
  • Licensure/Certifications:
  • BCLS Certified/AB508 required
