Job Description and Job Responsibilites

Under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse, the OB Tech performs scrubbing functions for cesarean sections, emergent hysterectomies, postpartum tubal ligations, double set-ups, cerclages and D&C procedures; prepares the OR/LDR suites with the required equipment to perform the specific surgical procedures in accordance with MHG policies, regulations and professional standards; provides support to the registered nurse in the delivery of patient care in the obstetrical setting; and demonstrates consideration of age-specific issues related to meeting the needs of the newborn, adolescent and adult patients. The OB Tech supports the work of the RN to meet the needs of patients in order to provide safe, efficient, timely and excellent high quality care.

Reports to Licensed RN, Nursing Director

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Demonstrates proficiency in providing safe, effective patient care including but not limited to:

    • Works with the OB surgical team, under the direction and supervision of an RN, to provide care to the obstetrical patient during the intra-operative period.
    • ADL's
    • Mobility
    • Safety Concerns
    • Able to accurately document pertinent patient information including but not limited to: Vital Signs,Intake and Output,Height / Weight,Other care observations
  • Demonstrates ability to correctly operate equipment and maintain a safe environment

  • Provides patient care in accordance with hospitals policies and procedures, regulatory standards and fulfills other job duties as requested within their scope

  • Serves as a role model for the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization and fulfills other job duties as requested within Scope of Practice

  • Maintains current competencies as well as updated knowledge in specific area of practice

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma and surgical tech training/certification.
  • Six (6) months of hospital experience
  • Current AHA Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Current California State OB Technician and Nurse Assistant certification preferred
