Job Description and Job Responsibilites

Job Title: Lead Cook  

Job Summary:  Leads food production including menu planning and food preparation in the department, supports department director to ensure high quality service to patient, visitor and staff.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Serves as a lead cook, cooking and coordinating activities of department staff.
  • Follows recipes and/or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving and serving for soups, meat, poultry, fish vegetables, desserts and other food items for consumption.
  • Prepares menus for the cafeteria and catering functions.
  • Responsible for managing the inventory, placing orders and receiving deliveries of food, cleaning supplies, disposables, enteral feedings and supplements.
  • Cleans and sanitizes work station and equipment and follows all hospital and regulatory rules and procedures, aids in supervision of proper cleaning and sanitizing process.
  • Supervises the department to ensure safe food handling procedures for preparation, cooking, holding and storage of all food items and assists in the monitoring of HACCP. Takes corrective action as needed.
  • Performs monthly food and sanitation safety audits to ensure staff compliance
  • Aids in monitoring employee productivity and provides suggestions for improvement.
  • Supervises day-to-day activities of subordinates and assigns responsibility for specific work or functional activities.
  • Assists director in employee orientation and trainings.
  • Performs day-to-day assignments in addition to lead duties.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • High school graduate or Bachelor’s degree
  • Prefer at least 1 to 2 years of current experience in an acute care setting

Licensure/Certifications:

  • ServSafe Certification required.
