Laboratory Assistant I
Job Summary:
The Lab Assistant I is responsible to perform phlebotomy, specimen processing, and micro plating. Professional application of the laboratory’s principles, theories, techniques of phlebotomy and specimen processing will be required. This position reports to the lead laboratory assistant, laboratory manager/supervisor, and/or the administrative director of Laboratory services.
Essential Job Duties:
- Follows the hospital’s policies and procedures and documents their review.
- Demonstrates ability to draw blood on all age groups, following each step of the laboratory procedure.
- Troubleshoots problems, documents specimen rejection, prepares send-out specimens and performs billing procedures.
- Orients and trains new staff.
- Keeps work area supplied, orderly and clean.
- Receives micro specimens in the LIS and processes them in micro.
- Performs other duties assigned by the lab manager/supervisor/lab administrative director.
