Job Title: Instrument Technician
Job Summary:
Instrument technician works under supervision of the Nursing Director/Manager participates in all phases of processing, sterilization of surgical instrumentation and supplies. Specific areas of responsibilities include: daily cleaning and sterilization of all surgical instruments and supplies in the surgical arena.
Essential Job Duties:
Demonstrates competency in the sterilization process for the patient population served including but not limited to the following :
Risk Behaviors
Reinforcement of EDU needs
Psychosocial needs
Clinical care
Responsible for the daily biological testing of sterilizers.
Maintains all testing records in accordance to regulatory requirements.
Demonstrates the ability to review surgical case load and prioritize all necessary instrument for the daily and emergency cases.
Demonstrates the ability to inspect instrumentation needed for repair and patient safety concerns.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care and determine interventions utilizing critical thinking in compliance with hospital policies and procedures, acceptable standards of practice,
Demonstrates an understanding of the APIC guidelines for infection control
Provides patient care throughout the continuum
Serves as a role model for the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization and fulfills other job duties as requested within Scope of Practice
Maintains current competencies as well as updated knowledge in specific area of practice

Education/Experience:
Graduate of an accredited Central Service Training School/Operating Room Technician program.
Minimum of 1 year current experience in an acute care setting.
Licensure/Certifications:
Current BLS for Health care Provider Card
Certificate preferred
