Job Description and Job Responsibilites

Job Title: Information Security Specialist

The Information Security Specialist will be responsible for the organization and maintenance of the Avanti Hospitals Authentication and Access Control agenda.  Under the supervision of the Director of Information Security, the ISS will conduct audits of Avanti Hospitals and third party applications and document existing permissions.  The ISS will coordinate with Information Technology Department personnel and Hospital Management to create appropriate levels of permissions based on roles (e.g. job title, department and location) of Avanti Hospitals employees and contractors.   The ISS will also maintain the Permissions Matrix and provide input on improving process and procedures related to authentication and access control.

 

The ISS will provide oversight into the Onboarding and Termination process by performing periodic reviews of accounts created and terminated and confirm the procedures are being performed properly.   The ISS will play a role in the vendor risk assessments and onboarding process to assure the proper level of permissions are granted.

 

The ISS will also conduct periodic access log reviews to ensure appropriate access by Avanti Hospitals personnel. 

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Perform audits of key Avanti applications and ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of PHI and Confidential data is maintained
  • Assist with site assessments to identify key security exposures and recommend improvements at our facilities, 3rd Party Hosting sites, and business associate sites. 
  • Lead efforts to create a role based matrix of permissions based on audit findings
  • Classify data that resides in the Avanti network/environment and document location and access of data
  • Maintain documentation of all Avanti applications
  • Work with Hospital management and Information Technology to perform vendor risk analysis
  • Ensure proper access is granted and terminated during the Onboarding and Termination Process
  • Provide ongoing oversight by performing regularly scheduled access log audits

Job Requirements

Experience:

  • High school diploma is required
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working as an information technology professional
  • Must have experience coordinating with multiple departments or groups
  • Experience in the healthcare industry, working with Electronic Medical Records systems such as McKesson’s Paragon is strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience in a project management or auditing role is highly desirable.
