Job Title:  Infection Prevention Coordinator            

Job Summary:

An individual trained in hospital epidemiology principles responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of data pertaining to hospital acquired infections and required by regulatory agencies; educating employees about infection prevention; and development and implementation of infection prevention & control policies and procedures that meet the standards of The Joint Commission, OSHA, Public Health Department, and Center for Disease Control requirements.  The Infection Prevention Coordinator reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.

Essential Job Duties:

The Infection Prevention Coordinator, under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, ensures that the objectives of the department are met.  Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Demonstrates awareness and adherence to legal requirements pertinent to employee health and safety.
  • Promotes the application of organizational and departmental policies relating to infection control involving, but not limited to, isolation procedures and techniques, sterilization procedures, the safe disposal of infectious and contaminated wastes, and prevention of cross-infection through equipment use.
  • Assists in developing and implementing a preventive and corrective program designed to minimize infection hazards.
  • Serves as a role model for the Vision, Mission and Values of the organization and fulfills other job duties as requested within Scope of Practice.
  • Maintains current competencies as well as updated knowledge in specific area of practice.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health, or a related field - Master’s in Public Health or MSN preferred
  • A minimum of three years of clinical/healthcare experience, including two years in infection control
  • Knowledge of microbiology, patient care practices, epidemiology
  • Expertise in regulatory, licensing, and professional clinical guidelines

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Current BLS for Health Care Provider card
