Job Description and Job Responsibilites

Job Title:  Infection Prevention and Control/ Licensed Vocational Nurse / Sub-Acute

Job Summary:

A Licensed Nurse trained in hospital epidemiology principles and occupational health is-responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of employee injuries & hospital acquired infections; educating employees about work safety & infection prevention; and implementation of employee health & infection prevention & control policies and procedures that meet the standards of The Joint Commission, OSHA, Public Health Department, Center for Disease Control requirements, CMS, and Title 22.  The IC / LVN for Sub-Acute reports to the Director of Sub-Acute and or the Director of IP.

Infection Preventionist Functions :

The IPC / LVN for Sub-Acute, under the supervision of the department director and/or the Director of IP, ensures that the objectives of the department are met.  These functioning roles are recommended to be included in the duty statement of staff serving as the IP, responsibility may include, but may not be limited to the following:

IPC Program Management:

Infection prevention program – Consult in the development and implementation of the infection prevention program, evaluate the effectiveness of the IP program and modify as needed. Actively participate on the IPC committee.


Develop an annual surveillance plan based on the population served, services provided and analysis of surveillance data, Conduct surveillance using epidemiological principles and evaluate the surveillance plan as necessary.

IPC policies and protocols:

Assist with the implementation of IPC polices and protocols and communicate IPC information and data to various committees within the facility and HCP

IPC Education:

Develop IPC training for Staff Residents, Sub-Acute HCP and not limited to Engineering Staff, Housekeeping Staff, Food Service Staff, Volunteers and other who enter the Sub-Acute on a regular basis.

Regulatory Requirements:

Ensure compliance with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements at the local, state and federal levels. Ensure compliance with COVID 19 and other testing requirements and facilitate compliance with regulatory standards among residents and HCP.

Performance Improvement:

Participate in PI committees, teams and initiatives as needed and Incorporate IPC process and outcome measures into the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.

Occupational Health:

Assist with Sub-Acute resident’s immunization and screening programs as needed.

Job Requirements


  • At least 1-year experience in the in the healthcare setting.
  • Should complete 10 hours of continuing education in the field of IPC on annual basis.


  • Current LVN license in good standing by the California State Board of Nursing
  • Current BLS for Health Care Provider Card
  • Completion of a training program in Infection Prevention and Control in the Long Term Care Setting with a minimum of 14 hours.
