Job Title: HIM Supervisor

Job Summary:

Performs under the supervision of the HIM Director. The HIM Supervisor will be directly responsible for the supervision, evaluation, and overall management of the clerical staff within the HIM Department, analysis, suspension, and chart reconciliation processing areas. This position is in charge of making sure that complete patient records are being kept and organized for the entire hospital, including pick up and forwarding of charts to prepping, analysis of charts, release of information walk-in requests. Also, coordinate requests for medical records by authorized outside agencies and third party payers, as well as internal record requests by hospital physicians, staff and other care providers. The Supervisor’s role is to develop, organize, and lead creative, multi-functional, customer-focused HIM Teams. The Supervisor will work with the Administrative Team, physicians, patient care, ancillary and other staffs to assess needs, create, implement, and manage the medical record systems serving the hospitals Avanti Facilities. To include any and all other duties assigned by the HIM Director.

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Manage and controls the daily workflow, assess and distributes assignments in the HIM Department

  • Works as a liaison between the Medical Staff and other staff members to meet their needs as it relates to the medical record

  • Data mining reports for various committees, assures  submission of reports within designated time lines

  • Corrects and submits OSPHD reports to the state

  • Monitors and evaluates Clerical Staff for job performance

  • Staff Department according to census

  • Works with Director in the planning and preparation of Joint Commission Accreditation

  • Performs other duties assigned to me by my Director/Supervisor

Job Requirements


  • High school graduate or AA degree

  • Working knowledge and state and federal guidelines

  • Complete understanding of contents of the Legal Medical record and its requirement

  • Prefer at least 3 to 4 years of current experience in an acute care setting


  •  RHIT, CCS  certificate preferred but not required
