Job Description and Job Responsibilites

Job Summary:

 

The Emergency Department Technician, under the direction of the Registered Nurse, assists the medical and nursing staff of the department with providing direct and indirect, safe patient care and performing related duties and procedures as assigned and within the scope of their practice.

 

 

Essential Job Duties:

 

•             Receives direction and assignments from physicians and nurses and provides technical support to optimize patient care.

•             Responsible for collecting data and reporting on the condition of patient/client to the appropriate nursing and medical staff.

•             Assist with care as directed.

•             Cleans and stocks carts, rooms, and changes linen, as required.

•             Assists with transport of patients to other departments.

•             Assist with resuscitation, Basic Life Support.

•             Assist with obtaining and documentation of vital signs and placement of oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems.

•             Assist with other technical functions such as: obtaining 12-lead EKGs and collection, labeling and transport of stool and urine specimens for laboratory analysis.

•             Assist with wound care and splint application.

•             Decontaminates all equipment, instruments, and supplies.

•             Assists with positioning patients for dressings, splinting and procedures.

•             Measure and fit crutches and canes; assists RN with training of patients on proper crutch and cane walking.

•             Maintains appropriate documentation.

•             Maintains use of appropriate medical equipment and supplies.

•             Assist in room turn around, cleaning room and gurney, escorting patient to room, assisting to get them undressed and into a grown for examination.

•             Assist in documenting and securing patients valuables and clothing and complete inventory list upon admission to hospital.

•             Functions as a Sitter for patients who require Behavioral Observation and documents per policy.

•             Observes patient and family activity in waiting room and main ED, providing excellent customer

service to meet patient needs and notifying the RN of any change or concerns with the patient’s condition.

 

•             Participates in team/staff meetings and in-services as needed.

•             Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of hospital, and other local, state, and federal guidelines.




Job Requirements

Education:

 

Required:

 

HS Diploma, GED or equivalent required

CNA, EMT or Nursing Student with 1 semester of Clinical Experience

 

Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)

MAB/CPI (Management of Assaultive Behavior Training) within 90 days of hire

 

 

Preferred:

 

 Nursing Student with 1 semester of Clinical Experience

 

Experience:

 

6 months related clinical experience at a minimum

One year related clinical experience (Urgent Care or ED) or pre-hospital setting preferred.
