Title: EHR Training Specialist

 Description

The EHR (Electronic Health Record) Training Specialist shall act as a liaison between physicians, hospital clinicians/departmental staff and Information Technology.  Primary responsibility includes developing, maintaining, instructing and supporting all EHR computer systems training programs. This individual will work with physicians, hospital clinicians and departmental staff members to optimize their usage of Avanti computer systems. Computer systems training efforts will address Federal and State mandates, quality outcomes and will support organizational goals.  



Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Collaborate closely with and communicate between physicians, Avanti clinicians, departmental staff members, leadership and Information Technology
  • Provide EHR computer systems training programs and instruction to support new and existing physicians, clinicians and departmental staff members towards increasing their competence and confidence in the use of Avanti EHR information systems.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures for usage of EHR information systems.
  • Develop and provide training and on-going support for new and revised system implementations as needed
  • Run statistical reports to determine and report success of each training effort to Information Technology leadership

Acquisition & Deployment

  • Define and report requests for changes to current EHR systems.
  • Develop, instruct and document training efforts that will support the design and successful implementation of EHR applications across the organization.
  • Assist with evaluation and recommendations for submission of purchasing decisions for new EHR systems and technologies that meet organizational standards.

Operational Management

  • Lead and support EHR computer system training efforts to ensure success of each initiative and optimization of use of new or modified EHR information systems.
  • Ensure that physicians, clinicians and departmental staff members are informed of new or modified systems or processes to maintain patient confidentiality and privacy, in accordance with HIPAA and JCAHO.
  • Train, educate, and instruct EHR system users on features, operation, and usage of software systems.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of auditing and review processes to monitor systems usage
  • Deliver regular reports that clearly communicate the results and/or progress of EHR systems initiatives.
  • Monitor EHR user system performance, and report to Information Technology when anomalies, errors, inaccuracies, or inefficiencies occur.

Position Requirements

Formal Education & Certification

  • Associate’s degree or graduate of certification program in a medical related field generally found working in an acute care setting or, a minimum of 1 year of experience directly working with physicians, clinicians and departmental staff with the use of EHR computer systems within an acute care setting.
  • Degree or certification in Nursing is preferred.
  • Healthcare Informatics certification would be beneficial.

Knowledge & Experience

  • If an RN or LVN, minimum of 1 year of direct patient care experience in an acute care/ambulatory setting is preferred.
  • If non-nursing, minimum of 1 year directly working with physicians, clinicians and department staff members in the use of EHR computer systems in an acute care/ambulatory setting is preferred.
  • Experience with structured training efforts to meet hospital standards and requirements preferred
  • Experience creating and maintaining documentation of training efforts
  • Adept at persuading and training users to adopt new workflows and tools
  • Broad knowledge of hospital operations
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals, procedural documentation, and healthcare guides.
  • Excellent ability to translate technical terminology for consumption by non-technical audiences.
  • Knowledge of adult learning and training methods preferred
  • Computer equipment support experience preferred
  • Awareness of current IT security standards, applicable privacy laws, JCAHO accreditation standards, and so on.
  • Experience with use of Microsoft Office products
