Job Title:  Chief Executive Officer

Job Summary:

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will participate in operational decision-making processes necessary for the successful attainment of the hospital's mission in addition to maintaining an awareness of changes in healthcare matters that could have an impact on the success of the hospital. The CEO will plan, direct, and control all functions of the hospital in keeping with the Governing Board's policies and regulatory guidelines.

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Ensure that affordable health care is provided by the acquisition, utilization and organization of human, financial and physical resources and develop improved techniques and practices
  • Establish long-range plans to support the hospital's values, vision, customer service and general objectives
  • Organize hospital functions through delegation of duties, appropriate departmentalization and maintaining accountability from managers
  • Design and implement an effective Business Plan to meet hospital occupancy goals and objectives
  • Integrate the hospital with the community through effective communication and public relations
  • Maintain affiliations that enhance professional growth and insure awareness of the latest trends in hospital administration
  • Partner with physicians who use, or will use, the hospital; taking a leadership role in the recruiting and retention of physician
  • Ensure the hospital meets necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations in conjunction with the hospital's Chief Nursing Officer
  • Review and act on inspecting agencies' reports
  • Prepare annual budget including internal financial controls
  • Assist in planning new services that generate additional sources of profitable revenue
  • Create an environment that will encourage the recruitment and retention of qualified hospital employees
  • Manage costs by continually seeking data that will identify opportunities and take action to eliminate non-value costs in conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer and Avanti’s Chief Financial Officer.
  • Develop and maintain positive relations with the Gardena community as well as with its leaders
  • Analyze areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities
  • Represent the hospital at meetings including medical staff, hospital Governing Board meetings as well as relevant community meetings
  • Participate in the Avanti's monthly operation reviews as well as participating in corporate office meetings as deemed necessary


Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field from an accredited institution
  • Master's degree required (MPH, MHA or MBA preferred)
  • Previous hospital executive management responsibility is required, preferably at a community or safety net hospital.
  • 10 years progressive operational experience in an acute care environment
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in physician relations or recruitment
  • Must have knowledge of hospital economics, information technology and human resources management
  • Must be proficient in written and verbal communications with exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Must have proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, hospital staff and community
