Job Description and Job Responsibilites

Central Supply Technician / Sterile Processing Technician

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Surgical Services is responsible for replenishing supplies to various patient care areas throughout the hospital on a routine basis. Responsible for the proper sterilization of trays, basins and instruments utilized by the Surgery department and other areas as needed. Responsible for the ordering of rental equipment for patient needs on as needed basis.

Essential Job Duties: 

  • Participates in the economical distribution and handling of routine supplies to all patient care areas.
  • Daily inventory control of supplies. Maintains reports and carries out procedures promoting methods of charging for supplies.
  • Orders supplies and equipment, receives and distributes them as necessary. Assists with the control of the department budget.
  • Responsible for the daily and as needed biological testing and use of the sterilizer and daily Bowie/Dick test per hospitals policy and procedures. Maintains records of test results and follow-up action as needed.
  • Demonstrates best practices in the utilization of Universal Precautions and Infection Control principles as stated in the hospitals policy and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Prefer at least 1-2 years of current experience and/or training equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of medical supplies.
  • Knowledge on how to perform sterile processing procedures.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control protocols.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • SPT (Sterile Processing Technician) certification or equivalent preferred.
