Job Title: Patient Care Technician

Job Summary:

The position of Patient Care Technician (PCT), works under supervision of the nurse, and the California Nurse Practice Act as well as evidence-based standards of care, to provide basic care to patients and assist professional nurses with complex patient care up to the validated level of training.

This position supports the Pipeline Health Culture Club Values through the provision of distinctive and compassionate care to our employees and patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Adheres to the evidence-based standards of care and standards of practice, policies and procedures of the hospital and the Division of Nursing.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in providing safe, effective patient care including but not limited to ADL’s, mobility and safety concerns.
  • Assists patients with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, feeding, elimination, positioning, and bed linen changes.
  • Assists with admitting, discharging, transferring and transporting patients.
  • Obtains and accurately documents pertinent patient information including but not limited to vital signs, weights, I & O, oxygen saturation, care observations and reports all abnormalities to the RN in a timely manner.
  • Performs and documents simple procedures such as simple dressing changes, urinary catheter care/discontinuation and electrocardiograms.
  • Collects blood and urine specimens and discontinues IV’s according to policy.
  • Performs and documents common bedside tests including but not limited to blood glucose monitoring.
  • In a courteous manner instructs patients in various basic procedures and communicates effectively with patients and family members. Provides encouragement, support and comfort to patients and family
  • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition utilizing computerized documentation
  • Provides age and culturally appropriate
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Job Requirements



  • Six months of acute care experience as a certified nurse's aide or emergency medical technician.
  • Prior EKG experience preferred.
  • Prior Phlebotomy Experience preferred.


  • High school graduate or equivalent.


  • Current California Certified Nurses Aid Certificate/or Emergency Medical Technician Certificate
  • Phlebotomy Certification.
  • EKG certification course.
  • Current AHA BLS.
