Job Description

Position & Department Summary: Provides clinical and administrative support for River Forest Medical Campus Pain Management Center, which is a procedural based clinic that provides care for and treatment of patients who are experiencing either chronic or acute pain. The Pain Center is staffed with three physicians who are board-certified in anesthesia and interventional pain management. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


1.        Prepares patient rooms for office visits.

2.        Obtains medical history, vital signs, including blood pressure, height and weight and accurately and legibly documents in the medical record.  Instructs patients on required pre-surgery and/or pre-test preparation.       

3.         Performs a variety of laboratory procedures, including but not limited to fingerstick glucose, venipuncture, EKGs, urine dipsticks, throat cultures. Logs tests and controls and accurately documents in the medical records.

4.         Assists physician with physical exams, minor surgical procedures and treatments, such as dressings and ear irrigations and administers injections following a physician order.

5.         Receives, organizes, and maintains secure storage of medicine samples provided by pharmaceutical representatives.  Checks sample medications for expiration dates and maintain dispensing records.

6.         Performs equipment sterilization at site or prepares equipment for transfer to another facility for sterilization.  Maintains clinical equipment and reports malfunctions to the supervisor and/or clinical coordinator.

7.         Maintains cleanliness and general appearance of exam rooms.  Cleans rooms after each patient visit and disposes of potentially infectious materials appropriately.

8.         Assists with administrative duties such as answering telephone, scheduling appointments, billing, and maintaining/obtaining current demographic and insurance information. Processes referrals for Managed Care patients.

9.         Identifies, orders and stocks clinical supplies with supervisor’s approval.

10.      Complies with all Federal and State regulatory bodies.

Job Qualifications 

1.      High school diploma or GED

2.      CPR certification

3.      Degree or certificate from accredited school or program for medical assistants or related position

4.      One year clinical experience, including venipuncture, EKG, and injections, preferred

5.      Effective communication skills

6.      Ability to work under pressure
