Job Description
Job Title: Medical Assistant
Job Summary:
Provides the highest level of patient care by completing the Providers orders accurately and efficiently while demonstrating compassion and empathy. Facilitates communication among team members, patient/family to provider and physician/offices and other healthcare team members under the supervision of the Director, Clinic Operations.
Essential Job Duties:
Maintain compliance with HIPAA and other organization and government regulations applicable to the Patient Access setting
Provide excellent customer service at all times by effectively meeting patient’s needs, understanding who the patients are and building quality relationships.
Provider orders are completed in a timely manner and documented in electronic medical record system.
Review Authorization and confirm correct protocol
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and contact courier as needed
Monitor and observe patients and report on conditions to the Providers
Set up and maintain examination room ready for Provider evaluation
Initial all completed line items on Protocol encounter form
Provide comfort measures to patients (e.g. Water, Blanket, Cold pack, Wheelchair)
Review Patient health history inputted into the system ( e.g. ROS, HPI, PMH)
Discharge patient with necessary information and paperwork (e.g. DME, Rx, Work Note)
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Other Job Functions
Maintain a clean working environment. This includes your personal workspace and the facility (e.g. Nurses station, patient rooms, restrooms, waiting rooms, break rooms).
Patient rooms are stocked with supplies at the beginning of every shift (e.g. ear speculums, bed paper, sanitizer, cotton tip applicator)
Complete requisition forms and log specimens out with accurate patient demographics In order to meet the business need and provide the highest quality of care to our patients and customers, individuals may be required to work beyond normally scheduled shifts and will be required to comply with the organization’s attendance policies.
Education, Licensure and/or Certification
High school diploma or equivalent
Front and or back office experience preferred
Medical Assistant Certification
BLS/ CPR Card EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Previous experience working directly with the patients in a hospital, clinic, physician office or other medical setting preferred.
Equipment Knowledge Required
Computer, office equipment (photocopier, scanner, fax, etc., multiline phone system.
Proper use of an EKG Machine, WBC Machine, HemoCue – Hemoglobin, and Glucose Machine
Blood Pressure/Oxygen/Pulse Machine
Pulmonary Function Test
Sphygmomanometer

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the position is frequently required to do the following:
Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population.
Frequently bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing with the use of a step stool and twisting.
Lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time.
Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy.
Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret and/or analyze complex data and information.
