To be successful in this role, you will be proficient in the provision and coordination of patient centered care. Registered nurses (RNs) assess and evaluate patient conditions, and then plan, implement, provide, and document patient care in a manner that follows professional nursing standards and outlined practices.

Responsible for the comprehensive administration of one to three clinically related units and the Respiratory Department.  Shapes and interprets the philosophy and definition of nursing as it relates to short and long-term planning, program and staff development, resource and budget management, quality assurance, and systems utilization. Assumes 24 hour accountability for unit(s) operation.

Directly supervises Supervises 20-50 personnel per unit. Directly supervises RNs, unit clerks, PCTs, and all other patient caregivers as appropriate for the unit.  Directly supervises the Respiratory Supervisor and indirectly supervises the Respiratory Therapists and Department Secretary.

Job Requirements:

1.       BSN required; MSN preferred

2.       Current Illinois R.N. licensure

3.      4 years clinical RN experience

4.       Two years experience as a Resource Person, Charge nurse or nursing administration

5.       CPR certification

6.       Average computer skills necessary to access patient databases, e-mail systems, etc.

7.       Knowledge of JCAHO, IDPH, and other regulatory bodies

8.       Ability to assess needs, identify problems, explore alternatives and implement solutions

9.    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

10.    Effective problem-solving skills

11.    Proven ability to inspire leadership skills in all nursing positions and facilitate a team environment.

•         Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing

•         Current Professional Nurse License issued and/or recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners

•         BLS and ACLS from AHA

•         Prior experience in specialty area
