General Summary:

Reporting to the Nurse Manager of Emergency Services units this incumbent independently coordinates all systems related to acute stroke care delivery. Develops clinical service and enhances research in the clinical setting. Monitor quality of care issues, cost of care and pathways for stroke care management including patient education.

Job Duties

• Develops Stroke Center interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives using evidenced based practice and research.

• Develops and maintains community and staff education programs. Prepares educational materials for outreach events, stroke screenings and lectures community events.

• Actively participate in stroke conferences and nursing education for stroke care.

• Exhibits professional judgment in communicating with internal and external medical personnel.

• Remains informed of developments in area of expertise including but not limited to attending seminars and workshops and reading pertinent literature.

• Coordinates the JCAHO Primary Stroke Center certification and monitors for the continued compliance for certification.

• Act as clinical liaison between physicians, clinical coordinators, and administrative staff.

• Available to be on-call when scheduled for clinical trials.

• Conforms to the established Standards of Behavior

Job Qualifications

• Level of knowledge through the completion of an BSN program from an accredited school of Nursing.

• Three (3) to five (5) years of prior experience.

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Illinois.

• Certified Neuroscience RN highly preferred.

• Current CPR certification.

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification at time of hire.

• Possess clinical expertise in neurological disorders, especially stroke.

• Through understanding of hospital and Federal regulations pertaining to clinical trails.

• High degree of accuracy and efficiency in record keeping and clinical functions.

• Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients, families, medical personnel and other members of the health care team.

• Exercises good judgment and tactful discussion of cases with the medical faculty and patient families.

• Superior verbal and written communication skills.

• Excellent organizational skills and critical thinking skills.

• Ability to be a team player.
