To be successful in this role, you will be proficient in the provision and coordination of patient centered care. Registered nurses (RNs) assess and evaluate patient conditions, and then plan, implement, provide, and document patient care in a manner that follows professional nursing standards and outlined practices.

Basic Purpose of the Job:

To deliver leadership, direction, and resources to staff during evening, night and week-end hours. Provides leadership and oversight to all departmental employees.  Ensures the delivery of optimal patient care through the coordination of clinical activities, staff supervision, personnel leadership, and department organization.  Demonstrates a service excellence approach and communicates this expectation to staff.  Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by achieving financial targets of designated department(s).  Leads and coaches the development and growth of a safety culture in the organization. The house supervisor must be able to prioritize work and duties well and must work well under stressful situations. Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills with a variety of patients, physicians, and other health care providers both internal and external to the organization.  Must have the ability to make accurate decisions and judgments quickly. Needs to exhibit team oriented communication and partner well with co-workers.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Consistently follows policies to create a Culture of Safety:

•       Improving the accuracy of patient identification

•       Improving medication safety / medication scanning when applicable

•       Reducing the risk of health care-associated infections

•       Prevention and reporting of medical errors

•        Reducing the risk of patient harm resulting from falls

•       Consistent use of  universal ‘time out’ protocol where applicable

•       Recognizes and reports signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect.

•       Restraint Safety

•       Frequently rounds on each unit looking at current staffing and staffing for next shift

•       Clearly communicate any barriers or potential barriers to Administration on Call

Minimum Education- Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS and ACLS from AHA required. Current professional nurse license issue and/or recognized by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas required. Clinical specialty certification highly desired.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and Outlook.  Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills required.  Current regulatory knowledge (CMS & Joint Commission) and current evidence based practice knowledge.  Strong experience with service excellence culture.
